He had the misfortune of purchasing a AUD $99 Holiday Fever membership after receiving an unsolicited phone call from a telemarketer. This was under the assumption that this would give him and his wife numerous nights accommodation and meals at a wide range of hotels and motels.
After receiving the membership pack from Holiday Fever, he found that the vouchers enclosed were virtually worthless.
After investigating Holiday Fever on the web, he found other disgruntled clients and our post: "Accommodation Voucher Scams"
From our point of view we have a particular dislike for any ambiguous scheme that reflects badly on the accommodation industry.
We have done several posts on our blog about Holiday Fever (and others) and these posts generate a lot of web traffic. We can tell when there has been another flurry of activity by their telephone marketers, as our web traffic rapidly increases from their potential customers doing research via the web. We like to think that we have assisted a few potential clients of Holiday Fever avoid being scammed, however it is frustrating that nothing further can apparently be done (?) as this offshore based company continues to operate unobstructed in New Zealand.
Ashley Johnston, a South Island farmer is usually a reserved, mild mannered "good keen man." He believes that all relationships should be based on trust and he has an ardent sense of natural justice. Mr Johnston has picked a fight with holiday Fever and wishes to get in contact with other clients of Holiday Fever to see if he can generate some course of action.
We say, good on him!
For those that have had dealings with Holiday Fever we urge you to contact Ashley Johnston by email: m-aj@farmside.co.nz or give him a call on 03 3027197.
And let us know how you get on...

We are following up with our attack on Holiday Fever in Sydney and have experienced good co-operation with Westpac Credit Cards.
They have asked for copies of correspondence regarding our dis-satisfaction with Holiday fever and although we are a little hesitant how to handle this but the following paragraph is our initial claim with them. We are determined to have this matter proceed and invite others to join us.
“I am claiming that your representative who telephoned us and sold a Holiday Package on the evening of June 8th did so with misrepresentation by assuring both myself and my husband separately that we would be purchasing four nights accommodation at a large number of New Zealand Hotels. We were assured that there were a number of Hotels in Queenstown that were available. When the mailed confirmation, including vouchers, ID Card etc. arrived it was clearly apparent that the $99 charged was for a membership to Holiday Fever and in no way was able to obtain any nights stay in Queenstown as no Hotels were listed on the Holiday Fever Website in Queenstown. We therefore claim a full refund of the $99 AUD already charged and the full cost of our two nights stay in Queenstown. This trip would not have been afforded if we had not received your telesales offer. This claim is for a further $340NZ.
We are firm with our claim as both myself and my husband spoke to your marketer therefore we are both witness to your false promises.”

I've just had this guy ring me too...what is with the scammers all having the same accent? Where are they from? This is the 3rd scam (all differing types) I've had this year. I knew straight away and played him along...I had enough time to google it while on the phone and came up with this site - brilliant. Down with holiday fever from Australia!!
I didn't have time to confront him tonight as the phone went flat, I can be assured he will ring back and try to continue the scam. Time wasters!!
My elderly mother was also taken advantage of by these guys a few weeks ago. I spoke to a very rude guy in QLD who has put a number of obstacles in the way of getting her money back. I have raised it with the Commerce Commission I support everyone else to do the same if they are contacted by them.
PS the directory they sent was out of date so of no use at all to see what discounts were available.
