I was out for a meal with some fellow 'motellas' a couple of nights back and the inevitable topic of politics arose. Most of the table being level headed and reasoned business people broadcast their intention to vote National. The Act Party was also mentioned as a tactical voting option. One bearded, shorts and sandal attired gentleman mentioned Labour as his party of choice. The table was not surprised and continued to ignore him.
Surprisingly a sober and rational gentleman in his early 40's was uncharacteristically quiet. All eyes eventually turned to him and he uncomfortably started squirming in his seat. Finally he cracked and admitted that he was historically a Labour supporter but was this time was unsure if he should continue with Aunty Helen or turn to John Key. This is a guy runs his own business, is reasonably savvy, wears socks and shoes and has the ability to reason. His indecision astounded me!
How can a rational business person be confused between the benefits of statism compared to free enterprise and personal responsibility. (OK, I admit that National has a long way to go in the pursuit of promoting free enterprise, however it is the only viable alternative option we have to Nanny State!)
For the benefit of those that are also "confused" the following website will cleverly extract your personal beliefs and political principals. It will then tell you which party is closest to your ideals. Give it a go - it might surprise you.
